Rev. Bro. George of St. Teresa was born on 28th April 1946 at Muthiavila, Trivandrum. Being born to parents Ganaprakasham and Agnes as one of their five children, Bro. George following the divine call joined the Discalced Carmelites of St. Pius X Manjummel Province in the year 1967. He belongs to the Parish of St. Albert’s at Muthiavila in the diocese of Neyyattinkara. With a burning desire to serve the Lord, he made his first profession at St. Joseph’s Novitiate, Podanur on 03-10-1969. He wanted to be humble and simple all through his life. Making his Solemn Profession on 03-10-1974 at Sacred Heart Monastery, Aluva, he chose to take up perpetual brotherhood.
As a full-fledged member of our Order, he began his life of silent service at our Aluva Monastery. During that time in the year 1975 he did an ITI course in Fitter trade, which is a trade related to the mechanical branch. Following that, from the year 1978, while being a conventual in our Old Provincial House at Ernakulam, he served as the manager of our Fathima Engineering Industries at Thoppumpady for almost 17 years. Later he was also appointed as the Assistant Manager of our Little Flower Press, Manjummel in the year 1996. In the year 1999 he was asked to serve the community at Jyotir Bhavan, Kalamassery where he took up the office as a bursar for almost 12 years. In 2011 the Sacred Heart Community received Bro. George again as their new member. It was then in 2016 that he was detected to be suffering from Prostate Cancer, for which he underwent an operation and was under treatment. Bro. George was a man of deep reflection. On the occasion of his Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession in the year 2019, he released a book titled ‘Nalla Nilam, Nalla Vithe, Nalla Falam’ a product of his reflection. By the beginning of this year the Cancer began to spread more rapidly damaging even his kidneys. Even in spite of all his sufferings, his trademark serene smile was always on his lips. Finally, during his last days after undergoing much pain, he breathed his last today (17/12/2021) at about 5:45 pm.
