January 29, 2018 Author:

A community of cloistered, contemplative Nuns, the Discalced Carmelites (OCD) of Tiruvalla, striving to center their lives and activity on continual prayer to God for the Church and for the salvation and transformation of the world opened a new community of 8 sisters at Kolayad in the diocese and district of Kannur, Kerala. This is to be written in the Golden History of the Discalced Carmelites since this Convent, namely Avilaram, is the first of its kind in the Malabar (northern Kerala) region. It was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Alex Vadakumthala, Bishop of Kannur, on 29th January 2018, followed by a con-celebrated Mass, in the presence of Rev Dr. Johannes Gorantla OCD, Definitor General, Rev. Dr. Augustine Mulloor OCD, Provincial of Manjummel Province and many priests, religious and faithful. This Carmelite Community would constitute a centre of spiritual power in the Malabar Region especially in the diocese of Kannur.
